DON’T MISS THE

WHISTLER RUM

PRE-CHRISTMAS

WEEKEND PARTY

You are never too old to do what you love; never too old to change your profession.

That is how this former forensic biology student landed up as the new brand and events manager for Whistler African Style Rum. It was a happy coincidence over excellent rum (a polite way of saying: ek het die geleentheid raak gedrink).

That is how this former forensic biology student landed up as the new brand and events manager for Whistler African Style Rum. It was a happy coincidence over excellent rum (a polite way of saying: ek het die geleentheid raak gedrink).

I love seeing people smile and love what I do. Lately, thanks to COVID-19, you see frowns on faces but when people set foot on Whistler’s premises, they smile. There is always something to look forward to at Whistler. It’s peaceful, homely and comfortable with a different vibe in a sophisticated, yet relaxed outdoor setting.

Who is Marike?

Just like Trevor’s personal family, the Whistler African Style Rum is growing. Introducing Marike Jansen van Vuren, our new events and brand manager.

Five questions we asked Marike:

  1. Favourite food? A good steak.
  2. Hobby? Photography.
  3. Favourite colour? Green.
  4. The one thing people do not know about you (that you do not mind them knowing)? I dabbled in photography, as a teacher, youth leader, former forensic biology student and am almost always wearing white takkies.
  5. What is it like to be part of the Whistler team?It is the best office: on a farm. It was the right opportunity at the right place and time with the best people. I can be myself and input is welcome. It feels right and I cannot wait for the future.
I am particularly excited about the event planned for next week: our pre-Christmas party from 16–20 December.

Festivities will kick off at 11:00 on Wednesday – Reconciliation Day – and run until Sunday around 16:00. There will be assorted pizzas and Wagyu burgers on the menu until Saturday, as well as various drinks specials.

Shoppers can look forward to Whistler gift packs, which we will giftwrap, as well as between 5–15% discount on some of our products. Local artist Eugene van Tonder will provide live entertainment from 17:00–20:00 on Wednesday and from 13:00–22:00 on Saturday. We are also offering face painting and a jumping castle for the children.

We have a special finale planned for Sunday: our three-course Christmas lunch from 11:00 for R200 for adults and R100 for kids under the age of 12. Enjoy a snack plate with a cocktail or beer, our master distiller Leon’s famous smoked chicken, honey-glazed gammon, lamb on the spit, mixed green salad, potatoes and mixed vegetables. This will be followed by a dessert of brownies with ice cream, strawberries and chocolate sauce.

Lunch reservations are essential and we recommend booking for the other days, especially for larger groups. We do not offer accommodation on the farm but can recommend the following local guesthouses: Au Jardien, Wel-rie and Jolani.

We are ending 2020 with a bang and will be closed between Christmas and New Year. It has been such a hectic year and everyone is looking forward to a break and time with their families.

Hope to see you next week!

Cheers,

Marike

The Whistler distillery will be closed from 21 December–2 January.

We are excited for next year. An anticipated regular highlight is our night markets.
