What a strange time to be alive.

Even more so, what a strange time to be an alcohol producer in South Africa.

First, alcohol sales were banned, then unbanned… only to be banned again. Of course, this situation is not ideal. What we want is for the ban to be lifted so we can once again produce rum.

Talking about what could or should be will not get us anywhere, so what is the point? What we can do in the meantime is give back and help where we can.

Whistler Rum supporting our community

Although the current situation is devastating, we still have countless people in our communities who do not have anything to eat. That is why we are using every avenue possible to help out and provide our followers with an opportunity to give back, too.

We have been giving back and would like to give our followers the same opportunity. Over the past couple of weeks, our master distiller Leon (known as Lon to members of our local community) is actively involved with Welkom 40, the local branch of Round Table Southern Africa (RTSA). He has personally been delivering food parcels to the community. We have also donated some funds – as much as we can afford under the current circumstances – towards the efforts of the Round Table.

Rum auction to help those in need

To this end, we invite all of our followers and rum lovers to give back. We aim to host a 24-hour charity auction on our Facebook page, in partnership with Welkom 40, as soon as the alcohol ban lifts. Ten bottles of our Boplaas Barrel Exchange product will be up for grabs. They are some of the first bottles ever produced, but also the last 10 available… your last chance to taste and own this unique product. Bidding starts at R3 600. The bottles are sold in a set of ten. Each bottle comes with a certificate in a separate box. All proceeds will be donated to RTSA. Keep an eye on our social media channels for details (handles below).

If you are so focused on your own problems, it is very easy to forget about people with greater needs. As an alcohol company, everyone can appreciate we are having a hard time right now. But even with that in mind, there are people out there who are hungry. It is important to remember this as it puts your problems into perspective and makes it easier to help where you can.

Hang in there and help where you can.

Vir eers, not cheers,
